Diabetes is a disease that occurs when the pancreas fails to produce adequate insulin for the body to function or the body lacks the ability to utilize insulin properly. Insulin is a hormone secreted by the pancreas; it converts glucose (blood sugar) from food into energy. When insulin levels are inadequate or fail to function, glucose (blood sugar) levels get too high and remain in the blood leading to a variety of health problems that eventually can lead to diabetes. There can be a variety of causes for diabetes. It can often stem from a hereditary weakness of the pancreas. One of the main causes of diabetes stems from excess consumption of refined carbohydrates (including white flour and sugar products) and alcohol.

Early warning signs of Diabetes can include:

-Frequent urination

-Frequent thirst

-Excessive hunger

-Unexplained weight loss

-Inability to concentrate

-Drowsiness, fatigue especially after eating

-Lack of energy for physical activities

-Blurry vision

Hypoglycemia

Differs from diabetes in that hypoglycemia is characterized as a disorder and not a disease. Hypoglycemia occurs due to abnormally low blood sugar levels and/or when the pancreas secretes too much insulin. It is also related to a weakness of the pancreas, and an over consumption of refined carbohydrates. Some people with hypoglycemia can eventually become diabetics if proper measures are not taken including an appropriate diet.  Sometimes hypoglycemia is a symptom of other disorders such as endocrine imbalances, in particular Adrenal Fatigue.

Diabetes and hypoglycemia can both be corrected if caught early enough through diet, exercise and natural supplements.  Malnutrition, the body lacking vitamins and minerals can lead to these disorders.
