Essiac tea was first made famous in Canada in the 1920's by a nurse by the name of Rene Caisse (essiac is her last name spelled backwards). Rene Caisse obtained the essiac tea recipe from the native canadian indians. Rene Caisse opened a clinic and began treating cancer patients with the tea. The original essiac formula contained 4 herbs: burdock root, sheep sorrel, rhubarb root, and slippery elm. These herbs have been shown to have anti-cancer effects, immune system boosting agents, assist in detoxifying the body, promote cellular repair, and cleanse the blood.
